The Balkan House
Located:7530 Edmonds Street, Burnaby BC
604-524-0404

Take yourself back to the 1970’s or the Rockerford file days in your mind and when you go in to the Balkan house that describes your initial thoughts when you first walk through the doors. The restaurant says that the decor is reminiscent of a European hunting lodge….

The restaurant is clean, the staff friendly and the service is good.

The Balkan house is an Eastern European restaurant known predominantly for their meat dishes.

Today I was in the mood for salad and Cevapcici – grilled sausage made from ground veal and pork.

The salad was fresh and the cevapcici was perfectly grilled and tasty!

The restaurant had mostly Eastern Europeans dining at it so by default I would say that the food is genuine to its European heritage and culinary roots….

Lunch for 2 was also very reasonable, approx $30.00 for two plates which included soup, salad, 5 pieces of Cevapcici with potatoes, rice and bread including 2 drinks.
On top of the sausages I am told that they are also known for their schnitzels and fish and one thing for sure is that they are known for the large portions.

At night they often have live music and a spirited atmosphere.

On Sundays they offer a buffet loaded with grilled meats and other goodies…. but don’t expect to take too many trips back to the buffet as the meats definitely will fill you up.

The Balkan House is worth a visit to expand your cultural taste buds or to simply

Get your meat on

A clip from Street Meet on their Sustainability
Sustainability is a main focus and is at the forefront of Street Meet’s day to day business. We not only provide the appropriate receptacles for recycling and compost, but take the extra steps necessary to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible. The truck and all its equipment are powered by propane which stated by the US Environmental Protection Agency, “Properly tuned propane engines produce up to 90% less carbon monoxide and 50% fewer toxins and smog producing emissions than gasoline”…not to mention, it’s less than half the price of gasoline, woot woot!! Street Meet will always refuse to sell such products as; farmed salmon, shark fin, non free range chicken, manatee, dolphin, baby seal, the rare white unicorn(due to excessive cost) and none of the human looking parts of a Centaur, cause that’s just weird. We will however serve; Sloping Hill Farms Pork, Pollderside Farms Chicken and Duck, Peace River Natural Organic Beef, Finest at Sea’s Oceanwise Seafood and the best local produce that BC has to offer, and occasionally, Grey Unicorn (when seasonally available).
A warm saying from the Street Meet friendlies….

Always Remember to Meet…Eat….Repeat…

If neither of the 2 choices above fit your fancy, look over the menu board or ask if they have any specials this week.
