Vancity Bake Shop

Happy Sunny Saturday great food lovers!

I had the opportunity to try out this new great up and coming online Bakery.
You must order online as there is no storefront.

As always I speak about the utmost importance of

food made from the heart and soul

I can clearly state that after talking with Carly, this new bake shop only produces her delectable baked goods based on this motto.

Okay, where to start? Let’s just dive in….
The Mocha Buzz a chocolate fudge mocha cupcake with mocha buttercream frosting and chocolate ganache treat on top!
the flavor was wow
Next up….. the Strawberry Shortcake cupcake
A very moist classic vanilla cupcake with a fresh strawberry buttercream.
If i didn’t know better I would have bet the strawberry buttercream was just picked out of the strawberry patch!

So if that wast enough, let’s move on to the Shortbread Toblerone cookie, one of Carly’s oldest recipes.
This cookie is a keeper for sure and one that will make you want to place another order…. One cold glass of milk and one (or 2, 3) of this delectable shortbread with little bits of surprise flavor in every bite…. Mmmmm

Last but by no means the least…. salted caramel marshmallows
You will hardly get the bag open before you get your fingers gewy from this homemade marshmallow treat.

Give this Bakery a try for your next function or dare I say simply a sweet tooth binge.
I am sure it will please your tastebuds and your tummy.

You Gotta Try This!

the classics…

the classics…. A perfect pairing for flavor wow!

Chicken Sorpresa (surprise)

Happy Monday great food lovers!

In my ever endeavor to keep creativity and experiment for new flavors……
My new Chicken Sorpresa (Italian word for Surprise)

This truly was a flavor explosion maybe will become part of a new E-Cookbook that I am currently thinking about?

game day food?

fun food?
all of the above

They tasted great and still are a work in progress as all great recipes need to keep being tweaked in initial stages.

What I always look for is that first bite and if it gets a smile! My son did and went right away for another bite!

I love creating a dish and making it your own. Of course there are many great recipes available at your finger tips but what I truly try and do is make it my own and expand the flavor, textures and profiles of the tasty and mouthwatering morsels.

Let me know what you think!?

These delectable bites are fresh chicken bites with a surprise in the middle. Sweet heat and Panko coated stuffed with proccuito and blue cheese.
The chicken is pre-seasoned in a blue cheese with ancho chili and sweet chipotle sauce/hot sauce.
I will be making them smaller to be bite sized in the coming days and trying mozzarella in place of gorgonzola.
The flavor profiles were great so the tweaks will be little as I will just try the milder cheese for those who aren’t crazy about blue cheese.
See in the picture with the bite on the left the cheese oozing out…. yum

Have a great day and let me know your feedback!
Is there something you want to see? If so, drop me an email and just ask!

Sliders tonight -Sunday treats

Happy Sunday happy food lovers!

Sunday night and what to have that the whole family will eat?!

Sliders of course
Tonight, 2 flavors on the menu
Stuffed beef and for the healthier craving folks, the

Turkey slider

What’s in it?
Stuffed burger
1 lb lean ground beef (you can also split 1/2 lb beef and 1/2 lb pork for a change)
1 organic egg (loosely beaten)
1 clove of garlic finely minced
1/4 cup red onion (spanish is great) but really any good onion can be used. Finely chopped.
Fresh ground pepper to taste
Seasalt (I used Murray river – my new favorite)
A touch of lea and perrins
A dash of ketchup
A teaspoon of Dijon mustard
1/4 cup of Panko bread crumbs
2 pcs of proccuito chopped up
1/4 cup shredded cheese (your choice)

Mix all together and then form little slider patties.

Turkey Burger
What’s in it?

1 lb ground turkey
Sea salt (I used Murray river)
Fresh pepper (your taste)
1 Clove garlic minced
1/4 cup onion finely diced
1 organic egg
1/4 cup Panko bread crumbs
1 tablespoon chopped parsley

Mix all together and form slider patties

Cook both slider patties your favorite way. Some pink in the middle of the beef slider is fine, but you want to cook the turkey patty right through

Serve your slider with fresh condiments and your favorite sauces. These burgers are packed with flavor so go easy and enjoy the layers of flavor pop in your mouth and you finish your slider in a bite, 2 or 3.

Wow on the flavor, thumbs up from the kids!
These Turkey burgers were awesome

Serve with your favorite potato, we had lemon BC nuggets instead of fries and pea shoots for our greens!

H.R. Grigor Museum

Recently the movie PROMETHEUS came out. Sci-fi lovers rushed to see it because they love the scary thrills and creepy aliens. I went for a different reason, to watch and appreciate H.R. Grigor’s artistic involvement.

It was by chance encounter that we discovered this museum. Mark, having always been a huge fan of his work, was stoked for the visit. We felt fortunate to view his artworks in person and catch glimpses of the work in progress for this movie. So on the opening night of the movie, we were front of the line, excited to see it all come alive, on-screen!

H.R. Grigor Museum

At first glance, the H.R. GIGOR MUSEUM has a creepy facade, and guarded by giant alien statues. Exactly the kind you have seen in Hollywood films. It might be enough to prevent one from going inside alone…

Fresh fresh fresh yum

Ralph and I are moments away from finishing the patio area on the south side of the back shed. He’s making raspberry pancakes for breakfast while I share my latest favorite treat with you. When we are finished here, there are two pallets of freshly cut sod sitting on a trailer waiting for us.

The patio has been a two summer journey with Dad. It started with the raised stone herb garden, then the stone step and finally the stone patio. I will post photos after we have finished laying the sod.

I can’t really find a graceful segue to talk about peaches so I will simply stumble into them. Whenever I find perfect peaches I buy them. That means we have peaches every couple of years. I don’t know if it’s just me but the peaches that I see are usually dry and mealy. Just the same, I never give up. Every time that…

The Juice Truck

The Juice Truck
Feeling a little like a pick me up today and ran into an terrific surprise! The Juice truck…. Yes the one that was on Eat Street!

You are automatically greeted by two smiling faces- Zach and Ryan.

By now you may have noticed that I always ask when I try a new truck, “if I could only have one thing what would you recommend my wow choice would be”
Today Zach and Ryan consulted and came up with the Almost Chocolate. Can I say mmmmm.
What’s inside? : banana blended with medjool dates, almond butter, raw cocoa, raw maca and soy milk
Did you know that the medjool dates have been referred to as the

King of Dates or the crown jewel of Dates

Why you ask? They are exceptionally large and contain a large amount of “fruit meat” that is extremely sweet!
Another un-common ingredient,

, or maca root has been used by native Indians in Peru as a vital health ingredient to health for thousands of years! It best grows in the mountains of Peru at 7 to 11000 feet making it the highest altitude growing plant in the world. It is a radish like root vegetable related to the potato family.
These guys not only do their homework on taste (which is first I assure you) but then how to deliver it to you in the healthiest state.

It was just what the food doctor ordered for a pick me up and my taste buds.

Great job guys! Keep up the awesome job and Remember…. Food and drink starts ultimately from the heart and soul, the ingredients are important but made with soul it shines!

You Gotta Try This!
